As someone who has owned a 24', 27', and a 32', I can tell you that they are well built, good sea boat, and tend to roll a lot in a beam sea. Every boat is a compromise. From the upper station, where to visibility is much better, does not give you much protection from the elements. On our 32', the forward visibility was not very good for anyone under 6' tall.
There are some good buys out there today, unless you just really want an express, check this out: http://www.ablboats.com/details.asp?ListingID=85876
It is listed under boats for sale as a 48' Gillikin, and my contact info is there. Just a thought.
I've owned a 247 for a long time and love it dearly. Have fished on 27's, 28's, 31's, and 32's. I like Albemarles a lot but in that size range, I do not like the style/layout as much. If it were me and looking at 35 to 38 foot, I'd look at Henriques. I fish quite a lot on a 38 Hen Convertible and it is a MACHINE. Can't think of one thing I would change on that boat
Tight lines,
Glenn
If you did change and decide to take a look at a Henriques, my buddy has a 35' Express that is in excellent condition. It is an 04 or a 05, 440 Yanmars, called TABASCO. Last I knew it was priced below all other 35 Henriques on the market, not because there is anything wrong with it but because he is looking to purchase another boat.
I have fished his boat quite a bit and it is a super nice boat. If interested, I can put the two of you in touch. I am not a broker or anything.
We're baaack.....
Not to say the Albie is not a good boat, but , You can do better! Take a look at a Jersey Cape Devil 36'. You will see alot more boat and She is extremly well built. There is more cockpit and a much better cabin lay-out. Click on the JC link above!
I love a good WAKE!
Like said earlier, in that size every boat is a compromise. I have not fished that boat exactly, but have fished a 247, 27 32 albies and a 25,28 & 35 carolina classic. the larger the boat, the visibility diminishes greatly unless you are a giant. my favorite boat in that size range i have fished is a 34 judge express. if you are primarily a fisherman, the cockpit, visibility and crew room on the bridge is unsurpassed. rides level and is much more stable. definately in the same price range too. custom boat as well from a reputable builder. i would probably saw it is a little/lot better on fuel. good sea handeling boat. we fish out of the chesapeake bay and a long way offshore so my experiences come dirently related to long runs. i will not speak to boats i have not riden on.
Sorry to jump on this thread a bit late, but the 36 Albemare is really a beast. In many ways it's very different from all the smaller Albemarle's. With a 14'5" beam she is exceptionally wide for a 36 and bigger than almost any boat in her class. In spite of that the head sea ride is phenomenal and all my customers who have this boat rave about it. Visibility is very good for an express this size and will surprise you. If you haven't sea trialed one you really need to check it out, preferably on a snotty day. She will stack up just fine against the competition in a nasty sea. I only say that because I have actually been on all the boats mentioned (except the 34 Judge). Don't get me wrong, these are all great options but the Albemarle is definately worth a hard look.
JohnGg - Where are you located? I can find a local boat to get you a look if interested.

How does the visibility compare to an Henriques 35?
What is the honest fully loaded fuel burn per hour at a 25 knot cruise?
Larry, did you figure out what you are going to get next year yet?
I would visibility is in line with the 35 Henriques. Both are above average for this class. Depending on which power is in the 36 Albemarle she'll cruise 28 - 31 knots fully loaded. Backed off to 25 knots would put her in the range of 30-35 GPH depending on which power package you choose. I can send you the detailed performance specs if you have an interest. Feel free to send me an email blogue@sjyachtsales.com. Keep in mind the 36 Albemarle also tips the scales about 4000 lbs heavier than the 35 Henriques.
