    Afternoon skate kill

OCtuna and I went out on the 19 carolina skiff yesterday and released 22 skates and killing 3 to eat. We were only out for 2 hours but still slayed them. I know this isn't an offshore thread, so no teasing required, but I figured it didn't matter. If anyone has recommendations on how to cook skates that would be greatly appreciated! I figured I would put the pic of how bloody the deck gets from gaffing the skates.

We use to bake them in butter, lemon, garlic, tomatos and green peppers. wrapped in foil. don't over cook. similar to shark. it will suck if you over cook them

    They are not Skates...

    they are cownose rays....

Don't think they are illegal, Virginia is trying to make a market for them because they are over abundant and are destroying the oyster beds, but have heard they are NOT like eating skate (which is good white meat)....Never tried one, but heard these are not good to eat.

But you should definitely know WHAT you are killing before you decided to kill it. If this was protected, it would not be a smart move to post the kill pics here.

I just googled them and nothing said they were illegal, one was a blogspot and a guy said he kills everyone he catches. Thanks Bill Ive never cooked them before so I figured I'd give it a shot.

dont eat those. They are nasty. They taste NOTHING like a skate. do yourself a favor and throw it out, seriously.

Get a huge skate and they are awesome. bill has the best recipe i have seen in a while! you can also deep fry them if you want to or pan fry!
