I was just wondering if and how you guys pick the time you go fishing is it based on tide or just good old experiance in the area.

Off Nigeria Marlin typically bite from 10"00 o'clock in the morning till 11:30 then a break and starts agian from say 13:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs.

I am more interested in Tuna. The record yellow fin in this coountry is 300lbs and i am trying to challenge that but have limited experiance in fishing big Tuna.

anything would be a help my wife keeps bothering me about too much time fishing trying to moderate things a bit

Tides generally are not a consideration, except departing the harbours or fishing inshore.

In my experience, the best fishing time is very early in the morning or late in the evening. I tend to avoid the heat of the day, esp in small boats. I rely on my chart recorder, depth finder and a mate watching the sky for frigate birds. Also if there's any structure around that attracts baitfish - oil rigs, submerged mountaintops, reefs, etc.
