Advice for a new kid

Thought I'd drop in and say hello and ask for some advice.

I am going to the Maldives in July and am looking to do some fishing while there.
While all the hotels seem to charter boats there are very few independant companies and there is very little information available on the fishing itself.

Has anyone here ever fished there or know anything about it?
Particualarly what kind of fish are present and the quality of fishing, as it it going to be an expensive few charters and I am loathe to go wild if the concensus is that the fishing is pretty poor.
