Left OC a little later than we hoped and headed to the Wilmington. Pulled up on the 100 line of the east wall at sundown and found a parking lot stretching for miles! Had to move south to find a spot on the line and set up for the chunk in about 150 fathoms. Chunked while drifting due west until about midnight without a pull or any real promising marks. Decided to move out to the deep and set back up in 550 fathoms. Clearer water, more squid and less weeds but the only bite we had was a 12lb bull. Had two big squid rigged for swords out but no love for us. The coolest thing at night was hearing whales spout around the boat in the dark.
At first light we set out the spread and started working the 500 line and eventually out to 1000 fathoms. The water was clear blue, flying fish everywhere, whales, porpoises, birds and some nice weed beds but not a pull!! Very frustrating night and day. Stopped on a couple of weed beds on the way home and pulled out a few more dolphin and headed in with a tired crew! We had a great time but the fish just didn't cooperate. Can't wait to do it again!!
