THE MAN IN THE BLUE SUIT

DATELINE Barnegat Light (NJ): Often invited, though he rarely appears, the man in the blue suit crashed the party in the cockpit of the F/V Pez Machine while most of us cradled Blackberries through inane meetings involving deadlines instead of flat lines, and ill-forged deals, rather than two-speed reels. This is the first man in the blue suit for the Pez Machine this season, unusual for a crew that spends so much time in 150-300 fathoms in some of the prettiest water this side of a Poland Spring bottle. Captain Stew Hitchner continues to struggle with the white ones, although his adversity to flying flags is only bolstered by his ability to harvest ram-gill-propelled pelagic creatures through effective manipulations of ballyhoo / jet / gaff combinations. In midweek trips, the Hitchner crew has consistently proven their mettle at running up big numbers of tunas using 24 hour trips, small crews, and strong real-time knowledge backed by multiple seasons of success. If you really want to kill a tunafish somewhere between the Dip and the Washington, you really should talk to Stew.
