Bent in Chair
Bent in the chair ....BUT....why not troll 1 stand up rig? Don't forget to bring one of these though! http://www.meltontackle.com/products...al-lifter.html
Would love to see the photos Andy. Those are really big fish for the Phuket area. Where is the bite happening? That's impressive stuff - good going and let us know how you do.![]()

most guys are buying bent chair rods.
In the chair, bent.
Stand up fishing up to 50# tackle, straight.
Stand up fishing 50# and up, bent.
Unless you know how to use a bent but there is no advantage. I have seen many anglers have their but kicked using a bent but when they had no idea how to use it.
Are you charter fishing or private boat?? What is the level of your anglers?? How much drag do you use??
Blacks generally fight like Tuna more than Blues. Down and dirty. This would lead me to say Bent but it depends on the answers to the questions above.
in the chair, use a bent. standup, use a short bent or straight butt

It has to do with the harness set up a lot of times. You can't really match up a kidney harness with a bent set up.
The stand up bent but harness are similar to chair buckets and allow you to sit your whole body back into the fish vs. having to put pressure on your lower back. If you look at a bent butt chair set up the pressure is 75% on the legs and 25% on the lower back. With a straight butt chair set up its more like 50/50 even 40/60 legs/back.
Your back will give up WAY quicker than your legs, and most people can exert way more pressure with there legs.
It's difficult to picture, but makes sense when you are actually the one tied to the stick.
