***800 lb. Billfish Tagged & Lahaina Fish Report***

    Lahaina Harbor, Maui

    Monday August 25, 2008

    Aloha Folks!

Running a few days behind, been a bit occupied as of late. First and foremost I would like to congratulate Pat Brian from Austin, Texas -- our custom rod builder -- on his Tag & Release of an estimated 800 lb. Pacific blue Marlin with Captain Chip Fisher aboard our Kona boat: Jun Ken Po.

This catch couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Congratulations Pat and Chip!

In Lahaina on Friday August 22, 2008. Captain Mark Davis 'Beefy' and deckhand 'Handsome' Brandon had their hands full with the combination of big eye tuna (albacore), yellowfin tuna (Ahi), Mahi Mahi, and sheebs.

    Letting those fish flags fly!

Dave from New York, pictured on the far right, told me specifically that this was his best day of fishing... he's fished for 40 years!!!

Will from Connecticut had his hands on bringing this bull in. He too confirmed to me that this was the biggest and best fishing he's ever done! 40 lb. bull for his trophy room. For many of these folks it's their first opportunity to fish for Pelagic game fish. And success means the biggest fish they have ever caught. Even if it's bait to seasoned anglers, we enjoy being along to share in their excitement and experience.

Just another beautiful day in Lahaina, Maui!

Mahalo to the boys for another fantastic job!

Thank You for the wonderful feedback on my recent reports.

    Mahalo,

    -Ono Noah

There are no pictures. This fish was caught/released on the Jun Ken Po out of Kona. I was on board.

Pat Brian makes custom fishing rods, so he had 2 custom stand up 130 outfits with him. The 130 lbs reel is actually a Penn 50 he had converted to a 130. It has 30-32 lbs drag at strike, about 50 at sunset & still has freespool. When we get hooked up on one of the stand up outfits, it's time to clear fast & get moving on the fish. It's loaded with 130 braided line and about 150 yds topshot of 100 lbs mono.

He asked me to come along as 2nd crew to help out. This fish WAS NOT caught on the stand up gear, but a standard 130 bent butt setup. I had the camera ready, but there was no opportunity to get a picture. We were 1 set of hands shy of getting a picture. But she was 800 lbs for sure. Nice fish.

    Hi Ace,

How's the family doing bro? Nice to hear from you.

Pat Brian and Captain Chip were too busy driving/angling the fish to snap shots. I was here in Lahaina when it happened, but Captain Chip is very conservative on his estimates, so I can imagine it was a toad.

    Mahalo,

Jeff Where you been dude! I have been fishing with a good friend of yours out here in OCMD!. Capt Rich Gallager on the 45 foot Daytona. There is a strong chance I'll be running her next season. He has new motors in his garage. I believe we are set to pull the old ones out in Oct. and have the job colmplete in about 6weeks. We will take lots of pics of the process.

Good to see that you are still fishing.
