    8/21-22/08 -- Swords

Fished the Wilmington canyon last night....despite terrible tuna fishing we had great swordfishing.

We ended up the night with 6 sword bites, came tight on 5 and landed 4.

The one we pulled the hook on was a pretty nice fish and the 4 we released were all in the 44-46" range.

We jigged up a small blackfin tuna just as we set up for the night.

The troll bite continues to be slow but we did have 4 whites cruise through the spread.

Thanks for the report. good to hear a bite is starting, abeit up north. a friend of mine tried a few daytime drops this past weekend and just got eaten up by squid and no solid discernable bites. we are going to give it another month or so befor trying again. october they started biting down in the norfolk and south last year. Good job.

stu, nice work with the sword bites. i guess with the chunck bite as slow as it has been it is not a bad time to be stuck at the dock.

Swordfishing really has been great lately. Our past 3 overnighters, we have had 10 bites, coming tight on 8 of them. We pulled the hook on one that was conservatively 200+ after an hour long fight and pulled the hook on another that was definitely a good fish of 100+ about 50 feet under neath the boat. Six of our 8 bites that were hooked solidly have been released or killed. Hopefully the fish continue to cooperate!
