Crab mustard is good
7-2 offshore report virginia beach
Wednesday, we had the guys from Autos Finos, inc in Richmond aboard for a day offshore. The plan was to fish the hotdog until we got our bluefin and move out from there. We put in lines and immediately started catching gaffers. We caught three in the first 45 minutes, all on the long riggers. There were a few boats in the area catching tunas, but it took us an hour to get our first tuna bite. I circled over a bait ball and the longrigger went off. 10 minutes later, 45'' bluefin in the box. We circled through and no more bites. We wanted ot try to get a bigger tuna, so we pushed offshore. We found some more gaffers and a king, but no tunas around the 22 fathom finger so we trolled back over to the dog. As soon as we got back into the area we caught another gaffer. Over the next little while, had tunas boil on our baits several times, but just didnt come tight. Finally, one takes the bar down and we get another 45'' bluefin, which was promptly released. We started pushing inshore and saw a 10' hammerhead cruising the surface and we put a fresh bluefish in his face and he turned on it, but moved off just before biting the hook. When we got done messing with the shark, another boat called us over on a buoy inside of the dog that had tons of bailer dolphins on it, and we bailed for a few minutes.
Final tally:
2 Bluefins-1 released
7/10 dolphins on the troll
1/2 kings
9 bailers
The good fishing should continue for the next week or two. We still have some open dates. Visit www.matadorcharters.com for details.
