Sit down Shut up And fish
7/12-13 Wilmington
Trolled the last two hours of daylight on thursday and managed one knockdown but the tuna dropped off before we could set up on it.
Had hoped to drift but 15 knots of sw wind and some current pushed us along at 1.9-2.4 knots so we dropped anchor on the northeast corner in 550 feet of water.
Bait was around all night and we picked up some great sword baits for the next few trips.
at 3am we had our first visitor, a nice 50 or so inch mako. as i was wiring the leader to cut it off near the hook, the hook pulled out. bonus for everyone.
20 minutes later the sword line goes off, fight it for 20 minutes and the leader broke. fought like a shark and the leader broke off cleanly near the hook.
at 3:45 we had a nice mako take a split-tailed mackeral about 50 feet down. 10 minutes later we had a 76" mako harpooned and tail-roped next to the boat.
on the morning troll we marked lots of bait and fish but couldn't get anything to come up to eat.
picked a few tiles before heading in.
