60’ Canyon Runner – 10/5-6 – 6 Yellowfin to 80#/8 Tiles to 30# & PICS

Captains Mark DeBlasio and Pete Doran had the BHP Tackle trip out Monday / Tuesday and headed back to the Lindencohl Canyon. Onboard were veteran long range anglers Basil Pappas, Jan Howard and Jim Carlisle. Upon arriving, the water looked green and the temp was 68, so they looked to the north, ending up in the Carteret Canyon in 71 degree water. The first bite of the night came on the sword rod but never came tight. The bait came back slashed indicating a sword. Shortly thereafter, the yellowfin showed under the boat and three 30-35lb fish were landed and a few lost on jigs then a solid 75-80lb fish came on a sardine.

There was a lull in the action for a few hours before the yellowfin came through again with another couple of the smaller fish landed and lost. In the morning, the group tried deep dropping as most of the group had never seen a Tilefish. After making a few moves the first tile was hooked and put up a heated battle. Unfortunately, the fish won this battle as the spectra parted. Next drop produced a 30lb golden and we continued to pick away ending up with 8 tiles.

Below are pics of the 30# Tile and some Pics for the last few Trips on Both Boats
