    NC 5lb Islander

Check this out. They actually make and sell a 66oz Islander.

PS For the record i am in no way affiliated with these folks as I ran across them on ebay. I just find a 5lb lure to be like a car wreck, you have to rubberneck.

its used as a dredge weight. . .i have one and they are great, but its better to use 2 of them and they are really expensive. the only reason i have one is that it was given to me. . . hard to afford 100bucks for that

I dunno. I was always a fan of an unhooked Mann's G50 as a dredge weight. Works real well.

    Seriously..........

Take a 5lb or 10lb weight and put a buld squid skirt over it. We use pink or purple. Keep it simple. We got one, as a gift. Does it make a difference, im gonna say no. We primarily WM fish and I can't say that it has done anything exceptional for us. Im always thinking that some wahoo is gonna come around and cut it off. Now I just lost a tripple mullet dredge.....sweet. The charters think its cool though!

I am asking this as a serious question as I have never pulled a dredge, how far should your weight be in front of the dredge. All the marlins I have caught have been by luck/accident, but during the summer next year I may spend a little less time messing with baiers, so stripteasers will probably be added.

the ones i have messed with in the past have just been a plain lead trolling drail snapped right to the hub of the dredge. if i were to decorate it with a shell squid i would definitly add some cable on the front and back to deter any errant wahoo attack.

Thats what I thougth, I just can't understand why they don't go ahead and make the dredge heavy enough without having to add something extra.

i attach my dredge weight directly infront of the dredge. Sometimes i will use up to 80+ oz. to get it down. still, they are never more than a foot or 2 off the dredge.

Different boats, sea conditions, etc. dictate different weights. Not to mention, different strokes for different folks. I like having $6 dredge bar instead of a $75 weighted bar. On my small boat I can get by with 72 oz of weight on a calm day. When fishing larger boats, I typically need 96+ to keep it from coming to the top
