Smile 26 Knots!!! A Freelance Triumph

The other day I posted about some of the extra curricular duties that creep up when working freelance for tournaments. In that thread I talked about trusting nothing and having to check and everything yourself to make sure its done.
I discussed at length that it goes beyond just packin a full set of tackle and baits and ... It often includes a drive by inspection of the boat to be used... This particular boat tore off a wheel at the end of last season and the owner had been running on three blade spares that vibrated too bad for extended use and shaved a few knots off the boats cruise speed.
I got to work and found him a wheel at a great price and while waiting to get it turned to specs I did other things to bring the boat to tournament ready status. I got the wheel yesterday and got her installed today as the final step in getting her right.
I have fished this boat for years and her one cruise speed has always been about 24 knots... Well I guess the wheel that he tore off must not have been to spec because at the same rpm I usually see 24 we had 26! That was mind you against wind and tide to make it even better. To cap it off she was so butter smooth I couldn't even feel anything other than water. Used to be at least some "engine" vibration...
I jacked the throttle forward and saw 28 for a high cruise... Never bothered pinning her but she had motor left to deliver if I wanted...
My thanks to Ray at Atlantis for the great wheel and the deal he cut us...

So for a freelance deal I feel good that I went the extra mile to check before assuming and now theres a boat that should be right underneath us...

She typically ran 24 for years and today she was churning a solid 26 at a needle width past 2400 rpm.
The fastest she has ever gone was 30.5 probably down wind and down current. That according to the garmin...

**** Weber just signed the big cardboard check with your name on it and the rest of the fleet is headed for the hills as they are too escared to compete with the lightning bolt that Luhrs built.

All those Spencer, Bayliss, F&S, and Weaver Boats don't stand a chance against freelance Deepy. Surrender boys!

Shouldn't you boys be playing "drop the soap" with each other...
A long way from a lightning bolt but at least we can get to most places... I like the new spread as it has done really well this year but a lot of talented guys to get past first...
Pretty sure this is the last year for this one under us for some tournies... My main client is shopping out a boat of our own to fill in until we iron out details and build our "dream" boat...
Criteria for the interim boat is express style, 30kts + cruise, glass (no wood), berth(s) seperate from v-berth.

That doesn't mean the Dad is all together done though. Next year the Dad may well still be used for Mako Mania and OCWMO as my main client's schedule already can't fit them in with his work schedule. Also may run a few charters on the Dad after Ma500.
