    WonderJames,

Here are the picts of the new FatBoy Squids that I promised. These are the 15" models, with a 20" at the end. Again, this particular one is for big blues, blacks, truly big tuna, and major wahoos - big squid, tuna, skipjack and dorado eaters all. That's a 14/0 Hays stiff rigged on there. It is the standard hook for this chasebait, but of course we will rig smaller ones or circle hooks if that is what someone prefers. The main leader is 500# hard Momoi. There are two leader configurations; one 28' one for non-world record and non-IGFA fishing and another for IGFA legal fishing. Since these lures won't be of interest to everyone, I won't bore you with the details of those options here.

Yes, these are BIG FISH lures. They are meant to be fished off of 130's. Yes, you can fish them on 80W's with the proper backing and topshots, wind-ons, etc., but we ourselves and most of our guys fish them on the 130's only for reasons that should be obvious.

They are rigged chasing pods of 7" FatBoy Squids on our narrow, lightweight, guaranteed unbreakable DaisyBars.

Some very serious and highly talented anglers are like us and vastly prefer these big hollow squids to big hard lures or even soft ones. The reason is what I call "the squish factor" in my marlin book. Once again, I will spare you the details and besides, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words. The words are in the book. When it comes to pictures that speak volumes, the next-to-last picture says it all..."Squish...Nothing in her mouth but hook...Hook-up...and a GOOD one! Marlin, big tuna, or mondo wahoo...you are mine!"

Try that with a big lure head, hard or soft, that a big fish has a hold on. Big difference!

Yours will be on the way shortly, WonderMan. Put 'em to good use, ya hear, Champ?!

Intrepid ended up winning close to 40,000 in sidebets alone because of that fish. So it wasnt a waste.

Sounds like a mighty close second? Four pounds? Too bad (second place ain't, though - not at all)...that's only one burp away from the top dawg!

Nonetheless, very nice going again, WonderJimbo. You and dat team are da tits, mon!

Gawd, what I wouldn't give to be on the wheel up in a tower with one of those insane, savage blue girls coming in, gobbling the short corner and blasting off with impossible speed and power, causing my eyes to pop wide open, my old heart to start jammin' and that old wolf howl going off in my soul and they say (I never heard it myself?), my voice while I charged my baby back after that raging queen fish, dodging the lines that weren't in yet and (they say), screaming "Reel, reel, reel, damnit! Come on, reel! Clear those lines! Oh my God, thank you Lord...look at 'er go! Ain't she grand?! Ah-ooo!"

It will never happen again for me, except in my head. That's okay, though. There were many incredible years of unbridled joy out there with those wonderful creatures. There is a lesson here for you young'uns and you old guys getting up there in years. It is what Janis Joplin sang about - "get it while you can". So very, very true.

Just do an old sea wolf a favor and tell him about one once in a while. And if you hear a muted howl off in the distance, don't worry about it...

    You'll know who it'll be.

I can still howl, ya know.

    Great going, WJ.
