Thursday, August 20 ~ Fishing Day Four Press Release
Moving Day came a day early at the 2009 Mid-Atlantic $500,000. Traditionally, the tournament has seen some of the biggest changes to the leaderboard occur on the final day of the event but with weather conditions expected to deteriorate by week’s end, 95 boats headed offshore on Day Four and the leaderboard took a beating in several categories. In other news today outside of the billfish and tuna categories, a new tournament record wahoo was weighed.
Jim Bonner of Wilmington, Delaware aboard his Top Notch moved into the lead today in the white marlin category after weighing an 81 pounder. A tie now exists for second place between Mark and Amy Granville-Smith of Manasas, Virginia with their Phat Mann and John Raimondo of Newton Square, Pennsylvania aboard Sea Mistress after both boats weighed white marlin of 78 pounds.
Sonny Falcone of Staten Island, New York aboard his Cookie II remains atop blue marlin category with his 453 pounder. Second and third place in the category are vacant.
We now have a tie for the lead in the tuna category after Adam Glushakow on his Predator based out of Salisbury, Maryland weighed a yellowfin tuna of 69 pounds to tie Charlie Duerr of Tinton Falls, New Jersey who also has a 69 pounder to his credit taken aboard Sea Hag. Jeffrey Scanelli of Bohemia, New York aboard his April Fool, Bob Belansen of Cape May, New Jersey on Beast and Peter Cherasia of Rumson, New Jersey on Shark Byte are now tied for third with 67-pound yellowfins.
Bill Gallo of Warren, New Jersey aboard his Joanna took the lead in the wahoo category with a 97-pounder which is also a new tournament record for that species. Mannington, New Jersey’s Mike Ackley aboard his Foray weighed a 37-pound dolphin (mahi-mahi) and took over the lead in the category.
Rich Ryon of Pottsville, Pennsylvania logged four white marlin releases aboard his Anthracite while Dan Deer of St. Michaels, Maryland released three white marlin aboard True Grit. Boats with two white marlin releases today include Shark Byte, Sea Mistress and Phat Mann. Other boats with two white marlin releases include Charlie Horning of Laytonsville, Maryland aboard Fish Whistle, Michael Cantor of Linden, New Jersey aboard Kemosabe, Barry Weshnak of Allenwood, New Jersey aboard Miss Annie, Paul Heilli of Ocean City, Maryland aboard Pumpin Hard, Mark Aiello of Serna Park, Maryland aboard Reel’n & Deal’n and Dan Desantis of Brockton, Massachusetts aboard Dealer Incentive.
