2008 El Pescado Billfish Tournament/St. Augustine
2007 - El Pescado Billfish Tournament coverage
2008 website - http://elpescadobillfish.com/Entry.html I was not able to fish the 2007 tournament. Fishing the 2008 tournament with a friend, PEZ VELA. Club sailfish tournament 3 Saturdays ago was decent with 4 boats releasing 3, 2, 1 and 1 respectively. Alot of boats had 3-5 shots. Not alot of action or fishing since due to weather. Weather for the tournament might be interesting: FRIDAY NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. FRIDAY NIGHT NORTHEAST WINDS 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET. ISOLATED SHOWERS. SATURDAY NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 6 FEET. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. Historically, a Nor'easter is bad weather for us. Big miserable seas. Could very well turn into a 1 day tournament. Alot of big boats coming. Last years winner, BID TIME reportedly is not fishing this year. MIMI, who caught a 1225 blue a few weeks is supposed to come as well as the new FLORIDIAN with one of the best dead bait sailfishermen in S. Florida. The new 60'+ Spencer OHANA will be home and fishing along with FAMILY TRADITION. RINGLEADER and REEL PUSHY will fish again and I think NEFMA(www.nefma.com) club members DOUBLE TROUBLE, JOY RIDE and CURTISEA are fishing this year. I'll know more as the week goes along. I'll add info as I get it and will try and report Fridays results after we get back to the dock. Same for Saturday. Wish us luck!

Jagsare2
Hey thanks for posting this. My father in law lives in st augustine and I am always threatening to take his 32 sea ray off shore.
. Can you tell me more about the fishery in St Aug. I have always wanted to go when I am down there during christmas. Also I'm a panthers fan but pull for the jags too since they have my boy David Garrard. Went to ECU with him and partyed with him a couple times. Came to the Raiders/Jags game last year in dec and it was 75 degrees. Awesome.Carson |

Carson, we have a nice fishery here. Last year at this tournament, over 100 sailfish were caught in 2 days. That is nothing to be embarassed about anywhere in the world. We hope for a repeat this year but honestly, the chances are that the numbers will be a little lower.
You mentioned during Christmas time. The wahoo should be here by then. Get out to 125' and get your lines in. Between 125' and 160' out of St. Augustine should be your best bet for wahoo. By the way, David Garrard is now a boater having bought a 41' sportfisherman this year. The weather forecast is deteriorating a little: FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET. SATURDAY NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 6 FEET. ISOLATED SHOWERS. SATURDAY NIGHT NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET. ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. 4-6 on Saturday and deteriorating. OK boys, put your helmets on, it's gonna be sporty. I was told today that MARLIN DARLIN out of S. Florida and TRASHMAN out of Savannah is coming.

We had to cancel the El Pescado but we will pre-fishing Fri and Sat for the New Smyrna Sailfish Tournament.
We did fish a little bit on Sunday morning on the way back from sword fishing, lots a bait around 150' to 160'. Caught 3 bailers and 0for1 on sails. Good luck.

Carson, 125' is approx 35 miles from the sea buoy in St. Augustine.
Capt. Rick, what boat are you on? Weather continues to call for 3-5 on Friday but has decreased to 3-5 on Saturday also. Got word today that the Viking factory boat will be down. Club boat TREE HOUSE is joining the fun. Kick off party tomorrow night. Alot of pretty boats and hopefully pretty women...did I say that out loud? My wife will kill me. Actually, she knows I know better. Look, don't touch.

Capt Rick, sorry you won't be there, are you out of Ponce?
Deep C, I know. I was never able to make it to the tournament site last year. I will print out your info and try to get it to them Thursday night.
