Going to put some of those wire pin rigs together but not sure how the bridle thing works with the heavy cigar weights. We never targeted wahoo untill last year and want to learn as much about them as possible as they are around in our area during August and Sept. We are still fishing inshore for bluefin right now but getting a fair amount of wahoo bite offs with Ilander-ballyhoo combo's meant for bluefin inshore between 23-32 miles off Cape May. When ever we get some offshore storms like last year we will get massive weed lines around 40-100 fathoms and will start both yellowfin and wahoo trollling along the week lines which usually have a warm and cold side to them and found wahoo pretty thick on both sides of the weed lines. Presently I have not seen any and concentrating inshore on the bluefin with both Kings and Wahoo present. I thank every one for their help and appreciate any additional information on the bridle set up
just wondering..... if the mono is bit though wont the wire pull out of the crimp as it is smooth?![]()
I have never seen the wire pull out but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.
I think with all that stuff crammed inside the crimp, 2 pieces of mono and 2 pieces of wire, it helps hold everything in place unlike if you tried to crimp just 2 pieces of wire together. If you're using 80lb leader, and then you add the wire, there shouldn't be much room left before you actually crimp it.
Nice one to bring back up...I need to rig some stuff like this due to the Wahoos showing in good numbers!
Need to get to Skipjack (my fishin' bud) to show me first hand![]()

WOW How great is this info. Awesome site! Thanks for sharing guys!!
Any preparation to the hole in the lead sinker when using this pin rig? ie: using an awl forced into the hole to smooth the edges or piece of chafe tube inserted and cut flush..?? yes i realize the lead can't cut thru the wire..guess it doesn't matter then..does it?

Ok, I have some more questions about this rig. The Wahoos are starting to show up and I have already been bit off once this year so far. So in addition to all of the wire leaders I twisted up last nite all of my mono rigs currently have the cheater wires installed. My question is the placement of the wire through the crimp. Does it absolutely have to go through the middle of the crimp? I tried to get it through the middle but sometimes after I made my final crimp I noticed the wire moved into the part of the crimp designated for the mono. In other words, the cheater wire is not centered in the crimp. Is this going to be a problem? Has anyone ever worried about the wire fracturing the mono inside the crimp? One last question. I seen the newer video Box posted of doing this set up to some sea witch rigs. He was using 100# mono and 1.3 crimps and still getting the wire through the crimp. This post says you have to go up 1 crimp size. I am using 130# mono and had to go up a crimp size to the 1.6. This is correct right?
Thanks fellas!
