I have never seen this but it looks great. Something to think about. I was testing some crimp combinations this winter and found that those double barrell crimps broke way before the oval shaped crimps. Also leaving the wire inside the crimp greatly reduced the breaking strength. I know if it sticks out it chafes so maybe bend it down or around and cut it off short. I did rig them with the wire in the main leader side, maybe it is OK in the tag end side. I will try these as well.

Bobby, I have never had a double barrel crimp fail on me yet.
I don't think the wire in the crimp weakens the leader either.
Thanks for the tip John.![]()
John it was good to meet you at the last NCW ClC meeting. Capt. Tom spoke about using 60 ft. of 80 lb. Flourocarbon without anything else between the terminal tackle. With your rig do you use this or do you use a wind-on and then a 15- 20 foot leaded? Since 80 lb Flourocarbon comes in 25 meter spools using 60 ft' on each rig gets expensive when you have multiple pre set rigs. Thanks for your advise.
Welcome to the site MURPHBO!!!
I have 10 rods set up exactly the same way.
1 25 yard spool 80lb Seaguar Fluorocarbon
It is connected to the mainline with a Spro 80 barrel swivel.
8/0 Mustad 7691 hook with a 1/4 oz chin weight.
I can crank the fish right up to the rod tip with no hands on the leader and stick a gaff in him.
Your right, 60' of Fluorocarbon is expensive. However, your spending all the money in gas and other expenses to get offshore......why short cut on leader and tackle?
Simple is the way to go. Keep it simple and you will catch more fish.
Please let me know if I can help you more.
Thank You....GREAT TIP....
Thanks.....Great Tip
You can also take that same rig if u decide to run copper or monel lets say on a split bill perhaps and with the riggin wire go through the weight, come back around to the other side and haywire it to itself back at the other end so that the tension of the rig is put on the weight and not the leader and base of the pin which in essence keeps the pin and rig perfectly in line with each other.
