Learned of this many years ago and heard it called 2 things - Cheater rig and Morehead City rig.

Has saved many hoos kings and even a few Makos

I concur fully. Excellent rig. Has saved many a wahoo and kingmac. Good tutorial.

Learned that one 15 or so years ago from Capt. Joe Shute. Awesome rig.

That is correct. Both ends of the wire go through the crimp. That way if your mono gets cut at the hook you still have the wire connection to keep the fish on.

Thats the rig Ive used since about 1989. Caught many fish that chewed through the mono but were saved by the wire loop! Good instructions! Trying to get friends to do it, but it takes a little more time getting that wire pushed through correctly.
