My best guess is the bigger fish travel in the deep when heading south as mentioned but there may be some smaller ones feeding behind the boats on scallop guts. My freind marked tons of sand eels and the bluefish they caught were spitting them up all over their boat so the bait is there and again who knows unless to get out there and try.
    Hey Caveman,
Last year, the first week of December off the Sub Bouy a school of 600+ BFT roared through hammering the herrings, a few bass fisherman got spooled and the one guy who put out a 50W and got hooked up, only to be spooled. I hope they come through this year... my 80s are ready to get it on... Capt. Marty

I think you are right. We are only going to see a few if any GBFT here off our coast. We have been looking for them for the past few years, and have only managed to get tops of about 130-140# fish in late Nov earlly Dec. I think the reason is that most of these fish do travel well out over the edge. If they are moving in a straight line from Nova Scotia to off of MHC then that puts them way out off of Ocean city. As long as the bait is plentiful on this straight line route I don't see any reason for them to move any closer or get off of a straight course. If the bait offshore becomes a little scarce then I think that they may move in a little closer. Below is the straight line along the migrating route. Goggle earth shows the shelf well and you can see how far off of Ocean City the route is.

Do fish swim in a straight line? Or do they move along structure looking for bait?
