I know that there are more and more meat fishermen switching over to circles for one reason and one reason only, they simple out perform j-hooks in getting fish to the boat. I fish hooked in the jaw with a circle hook is far less likely to get off the than one that is hook with a j hook. Every time we leave the dock we are looking to fill the fish box and circle hooks have never let us down.
