Pit Monkey First Class
1st Cobia of the Season, Ocean City
Juan and I ran out to the A. Queen yesterday to see if any triggers and spades had shown up. We had heard reports at some of the lower shore spots and even in the OC inlet. We got our limit of nice tautog pretty quick and decided to take a few triggers and spades. I shot a nice 25" flounder that was unusually higher on the wreck that what you would think, but i didnt complain. Juan got a nice almost 5 lb sheepshead and we started wrapping things up. While I was getting on the boat, Juan took one last look around...He poped up, said Cobia, and asked for another gun...I quickly handed him another gun and then pulled out the video camera to start filming(which i'll put up later tonight or tomorrow). His first shot was only with one band loaded and it didnt go all the way through. He spined it with the second shot and it was done! Didnt take off any line so we were darn lucky! Our buddy A.J. down at Ake Marine weighed it(61 lbs) and the Coastal Fisherman confirmed the first Cobia of the season(for them anyway)! We ended the trip with 4 Tog, 2 triggers, 2 spades, 1 flounder, 1 sheepshead, and the cobia.
