Talking 1st Annual Cape May Shark Tournament!!!

The rumors are true . . . we are announcing the 1st Annual Cape May Shark Tournament.

Off the Hook Bait & Tackle along w/the famous Sharky's Feeding Frenzy have partnered up and are putting together an event that we hope all will enjoy for years to come.

The dates for the Cape May Shark Tournament will be Friday, June 23 to Sunday, June 25. The two qualifying species will be Thresher and Mako. Participants can choose 2 out of the 3 available days to fish (Captain’s Choice). Captain’s Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 22 (time and place TBD).

    ENTRY FEE
$400 per boat (sign in deadline ½ hour before Captain’s Meeting)
    $350 early entry by June 5, 2006.

    CASH PRIZES

Heaviest Shark Overall will be awarded by dividing a 70% payout of total entry fees. This will be divided as follows: 1st Place (50%), 2nd Place (30%), 3rd Place (20%).

    Calcuttas:

    PREDATOR PAYOUT
Heaviest Mako and Heaviest Thresher: $300/boat to be divided evenly (50/50)

    SHARKY'S DAILY SPECIALS
    Heaviest Shark (daily): $50/boat
    Heaviest Bluefish (daily): $25/boat

We are in the middle of putting together a website that will give more details and provide additional announcements (raffles, BBQ info, additional sponsors, applications, etc.). Website address is www.capemaysharktournament.com or feel free to call us @ 609-884-7289. Sharky's Feeding Frenzy will also answer any questions after they open Memorial Weekend (can't wait for those shark bites and homemade soups!!!!).

Souds like there may be some other tournaments in the same area at the same time. I know that when that happens down in MD, the directors make it possible to fish both (simialr rules, species, and what not). You might want to consider that since it is the first year. Heck, if the people want to spend the money to fish both, let them fish both.

Just a suggestion. Good luck with the new tourney. The first year is always the hardest.

There are some tournaments down here in OC that have grown to 50+ and 90+ boats respectively that started with 7 and 11 in their first years.

Capt Brian, it's the only good weekend available in the Cape May for sharking, without overlaping some good local tournaments. As for payout well it's our first year, hopefully we get most things right and it will grow. That's why I'm doing the 70% payout instead of guaranteed prize money so it can grow with the event. So maybe someday it'll be big enough to pull some boats from up North. Right now I just want to throw a fun tournament!
    FrankyPettolina,
Thanks for the good ideas, I think for now I'll keep it a one port tourney, just to keep the confusion down. From the initial response we've seen I think we're gonna have our hands full with just Cape May. Thanks for the well wishes.

Could it be possible to win the Triple Crown of sharking out of Cape May

Probably not but with the new tournament I am going to call it the Triple Crown of Cape May Sharking. First the South Jersey, then Jim's Bait & Tackle and now Hinch's. Bring on them contenders and other go fast boats because we are ready and looking forward to a great new tournament. What a chance to score big at Hinch's with the largest shark and the first 100 lb tuna in the same weekend. Looks to be a great time plus some awesome food.
    Capt John
