186 Pound Mako - Wilmington Canyon

Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the Doug Christiansian charter to the Wilmington Canyon for the Brett Bailey Mako Tournament Friday night into Saturday and nailed an 80 inch mako in 600 fathoms of the Wilmington. Capt. Mark fished right on the 60-73 degree temperature break and had whales and bait all night and day and released a blue shark but had no other action. The mako ate a mackeral bait on the short rod down 30 feet and fought quite well for a mako with the battle lasting 15 minutes before planting the gaff. Back at the dock it weighted in at 186 pounds. Not enought for first place as Capt. Nick on the Benchmark won it all with a 250 mako - Congratulations!!

Both the Canyon Runner and Hooked Up II are on their way down south today for overnighters as we begin our canyon season today so hopefully plenty of reports and pictures will be forthcoming. Lots of yellowfin were taken in the Baltimore and boats caught upwords of 15+ nice bluefin inshore of the Toms Canyon so things are definately looking up.
