Seemed like today we found a bunch of yellowfin that would only bite half a ballyhoo. We fished along 30 fatom line while almost the whole fleet fished East of us in and around the Wilmington Canyon. Almost all bites on ballyhoo and we ended up pulling in all our spreader bars because they had only one bite and replacing them with ballyhoo. Lots of action but not a real good score card with 2 for 12 today. Mostly small yellowfin in 25-40 lb clas with a couple of lost fish in 50 lb pound range. No billfish bites and longfins were out in deeper water between 40-50 fathoms and beyond. There was a 1 degree temperature break with 78.4 degree water and that is why we stopped there at daybreak and starting trolling. Worked this area all day and had steady action almost the whole morning.

A few whites were caught and one boat hooking up two blues today but overall I think it was much slower than in the recent past. Suggest going south for billfish (way south)

Thank for the information and Wilmington Overnight
Thank you for the suggestions and one of my charter captains freinds just called and reported real decent fishing at night in the Wilmington on some big yellowfins 60-100 lbs plus. Everything on live spot. Nothing on butters, sardines, live squid ect. They can get live spot at $15.00 for a dozen at thier marina and they ran out of spot and that was the end of their bite for the night. They were using 60 lb leader and breaking off tuna and upped it to 130 lb and got the fish on the heavier leader. A few of these fish almost spooled them on 50 wide's with 16 lbs of drag and ended up chewing through the 60 lb leader. One night it is live sardines, then squid and spot. What ever happend to the good old days when squid and butterfish were the ticket.
The wanted to post this information in case any one is heading out today overnight and suggest bringing some live bait if possible. They fished on west wall but the better bite was up around the tip but smaller yellowfins up there which is actually good for charter fishing because the big boys can beat your charter up pretty good on stand-up gear.
