12/07 BFT bite is on!!
Beautiful weather and the bite was on this morning. I have no idea how many fish have been caught but from what I can hear on the radio and the phone calls that I ahve been getting for tackle and respooling reels things must have been pretty good. There are a lot more boats fishing today so I heard a lot of boats running over others fish. I hope that didn't happen too much! But It sounds like the fishing was good in a few different locations off the beach. Hopefully we get good reports by this afternoon and tonight for tommorrow.

Looks like the fish were all spread out today. There were a good many fish caught today, but there were more short fish that killin size fish. May be we will here more later on fish killed.

Joe, thanks for keeping us up to date on the happens up your way. a few boats fished frying pan today with no bites.... I'll be out for the next few days down here so if you don't mind, let a couple slip by so we'll have something to do tommorrow.

Good to hear from you Bobby! I hope everything is going well for you? yu should shake free and come down for some of the action on the BDT.
Jon, you don't have to worry about me hurting the bluefin population any for the next few days.. Too busy fixing everyone else up so they can catch'm up. I am going to try and get out this coming week if everybody will leave me one or two to tug on! Capt Joe |

Had to work this a.m. so my partner and I fished the second half of the day today. Headed approx 6 mi S/SW of the Beaufort Inlet sea buoy. Man oh man was it friggen crowded. At around 1300, we counted 73 boats. I shit thee not!! Put up with that for about 30 min or so then headed S/SE towards the NW places and slightly further east. Found a pocket of 57 degree water and a whale with a crap load of porpoise around it. Threw two horse hoos overboard. One on top with a blu/w islander and a one down at 30' in a pnk/w islander. Game on in about 3 minutes with the surface bait. Got him to the boat in about 25 min or so and he taped right at 66". Got back on the whale cruising the surface. Threw out two more and within 5 minutes had a double... for about 20 seconds
The one that didn't unglue was to the boat in 30 minutes and taped at 68". Top bait again. Had one more bite on the planner a few minutes later but nada. Then the whale sounded and so did flipper and all his friends, including the bft's.We fished two rods, both Penn 130's spooled w/80 and 100lb, 20' wind-on leaders. Heading out again tomorrow BUT not going anywhere near the clusterfk off the bouy! Damn, Im tired and here comes 0345. |
