Spent 11 days on the Pearl, a 75' Christianson, with Captain Sean Mcgee and in the galley, Vic Gamboa. Took the owner, his brother and a guest down the Baja coast for some fishing. Started fishing Sunday while passing Turtle and had a great bite on Yellowfin to #35, managed 22 right as the sun was going down, all on the porpoise. Fished the Ridge on our way to Santa Maria. Found good fishing on Dorado, and smaller Yellow Fin Tuna. Fished the double "23"s for 3 nice wahoo after drifting at sea for a night.
Fishing out of Santa Maria proper was pretty slow. No marlin strikes at all, saw a few jumpers, that was it. No bait around. Fished the Petrol one day for a dozen nice dorardo or so. Last year out of here we had 40 Marlin for our days there, not this time.
Headed north back to fish that stuff outside turtle. Had good fishing in front of Asuncion. A few wahoo strikes, but none stuck. Had great Yellow Fin Tuna fishing there on jig stops.
Spent a few nights in Turtle and our last day of fishing was probably the best of the trip. Epic Yellow Fin Tuna on porpoise. Good grade and good action all day until about 1pm. The mornings are where it's at down there right now if your going that way.
Ended the trip with around 100 Yellow Fin Tuna to #40, 60 dorado to #40 and 3 Wahoo. We kept limits and let the rest go.
Another great trip on the Pearl, she treats us well. Food was insane as always, thanks Vic! Sean did a great job once again running a tight ship and teaching me the ways of the Baja coast. We had excellent weather on the way down, not so much on the way back. From Santa Maria out to the 23s and up to Turtle we had a nice 33 hour pounding. Fule in Turtle was $2.55 a US gallon by the way. Enjoy the pics.
