For a decade, I've been trying to catch a swordfish out of Ocean City. One or two overnighters a season has produced bigeye, yellowfin, mahi, tons of cool stuff, but no swords...until Friday night in the Washington, at the 500-fathom tip. This guy ate a squid set 100' down. It came to the boat rather easily, and we didn't gaff him because we weren't sure he'd make the 47" mark (he did, but not by much!) so I billed the fish and pulled it over the side. Then, of course, he woke up for real! It took two of us to hold him down, till the fish calmed enough to snap these pictures:
Other than this guy, it was a slow night. No other bites, and no squid in the lights. We did pick up a nice yellwofin in the evening and jumped off a white first thing in the morning, but overall, Washington was a slow pick for us. Tomorrow, it'll be Baltimore!!
