Headed out to the Spencer for an overnight on Sat. Left the dock around 2pm and was trolling in the Spencer around 5pm. Quickly boated a double of Longfins in the 50 lb. range right of the bat on the troll. One on GM/Bird WB, other on a zukini shell squid bar.
Set up on the chunk around dusk (7pm). Quickly boated another Longfin around 50 lbs. Rest of the night was pretty dead. Alot of chatter on the radio about swords being caught and free jumping (i believe someone else on the board has a story to tell about this congrats bud!!!!). We were drifting so we picked up and changed spots. Put three mahi in the boat to 15 lbs. Lots of flying fish, squid, and such. Really great water, no fish. Around 2am we had a free jumping sword (like everyone was saying) going ape sh*t near the boat. From there on we had one or two cut offs probably from sharks.
Got back on the troll around 7am. Around 8am we had another triple of Longfin. 1 on GM/Bird WB, 1 on Red/Green/Black jumping daisy chain, 1 on zukini colored squid bar.
After being in touch with the Admin, John, for most of the night, we calld him again in the morning. He advised us where to head for some BFT behind the scallopers. Found many boats, but nothing behind them. One even had a consistant flock of birds following, but no fish. So we headed for the dock.
Total:
5 Longfin to 50-60lbs. on the troll
1 Long0fin to 50 lbs. on the chunk
3 Mahi to 15 lbs. on the chunk
Thanks a bunch to our awesome Admin John who i KNOW will have a great report for us as well as some pics. I'll leave the glory to him though.
