Let me start by saying thanks to Capt. Phil of Canyon Runner. He is truly a gentleman.
Originally my group planned on leaving about 2am, but when i found out that CR was going to be leaving at 1230 Capt. Phil said that it would be ok for me to follow him out since we were going to the same general location. I followed him and was thankful the entire way out. It made running so much easier.
About 5am the lines were in, and by 530 we had our first hit. 3 big explosions at the transom, and 1 of the lines come tight. 17 mintues later we had this eyeball coming over the top.
The rest of the day we caught a few short FYT and a few skips but not much else in terms of action. We started back about 230 pm.
On the ride back, a center console "Jennifer Lee" out of highlands asked if they could ride our wake on the way back from the Canyon. Absolutely not a problem, i said.
About 44 miles out, out of the blue, the starboard wheel starts to bang away and we shut it down. A quick look under the boat shows that we ran over about 20 feet of net. The starboard wheel is totally encapsulated in net.
Jennifer Lee stops and asks if we're ok, and throws us another mask. After about 30 minues we have the wheel clean and underway again.
I am not quite sure which weighed more, the fish or the net. I hope the fish but it seemed like the net.
Thanks again to the guys on the Jennifer Lee.
Pete
