1 for 9 on bigeyes in the Hudson 7/12/2010

Decided to head to the Hudson with all the reports we heard. We arrived at daylight and went on the troll at about 7am we had the wolf pack come up and hit everything only came tight on three fish. We then broke one off pulled the hook on the other and fought the third for an hour and a half and lost it 40 feet from the boat. Not a good start for the day. Then at 9:30am we had another wolf pack come up and hit every rod we had out and came tight on 5 of them. Ended up crossing two and broke both of them off then had a spreader bar break apart and lost that fish got the other fish wrapped around a pot and lost that one. So now we are down to just one fish and fought that one for 2 hours and finally got it in. The fish weighed 155 pounds and put up one hell of a fight. Now we get back on the troll and 2 hours later here they come agian this time only two but we only came tight on one. We ended up losing this fish 50 feet from the boat due to our wonderful custom rods we had made that were bent over so bad the line was hitting the rod and I knew we were in trouble with this fish and ended up breaking the line. These fish found every weak spot we had. We also went 1 for 4 on whites and had some nice dolphin. All in all a good day but very frustrating.

WoW! If you need some gear help..happy to give ya a hand..eyeballs will test all the weak links for sure..how much drag were you at strike?

These two bars in these colors are built HD for bigeyes..or bluefin..heavier mainline 400# Jinkai or fluorocarbon if preferred and heavier teaser lines etc..can be set up for stingers or direct hook in last teaser on mainline. We can build any color you want or like this way.

A note about our bars...the mainline is intact and solid direct to the hook. Meaning the rod mainline snap swivel attaches to the bar mainline which runs directly to the hook. There is NO hub connection at the bar itself which makes for two more crimped connections and the hub itself. The bar rides along with a "TAG" line attached to the mainline via a crimp. If the bar failed or the tag breaks the mainline stays intact.

Note: this is how we do it, not that any other way or bar type is less capable, just how we do it.

Tip: On the mainline..when crimping anything, use a piece of the mainline as a cushion in the crimp. In other words..when you crimp on the mainline, for a teaser position stop, insert a piece of the mainline into the crimp, crimp and trim the the "cushion" piece of mainline, this will help cushion the actual mainline versus just crushing the crimp on the mainline as a stopper.

Wow, what a great trip.... plenty of action and meat in the box.

Every lost fish is a lesson learned, believe me I have been taken to school many times and try not to do it again.

We were there on Sunday and didn't have half the action you guys had.

Were there a lot of boats out there yesterday? It was pretty quiet out there on Sunday.
