Openeing up the bookings for May now that the Bahama trips are full and dates set. May offers the best fishing of the year here and boxes full of mahi with a couple marlin tossed in are common place. The calm weather of May also is ideal for swording. Last year each trip at that time of year resulted in multiple bites and lots of nice fish. For those who can't make up their mind which to do...Do both! I run combo half troll / half sword trips. Special blow out deals are to be had... Email for details!
Small kings closer to Jupiter today and had some small ones our way too. we rubber hooked three sails today. Guys don't use their ears and strike too soon without enough drop back...
Kings were tiny today. They were not bigenough to even eat bally's. I slow troll with live baits . Allows me to cover a ton of ground... Kites or drift just limits you so bad. Produces but doesn't let you cover any water.
Any way... Back to the topic... May is just about here. The motor repair will be done in a couple days and the fish are here. My Buddy had a box of big mahi today and on sunday got spooled by a slob blue of 600+. Dates are still pretty open but filling quick...
Well, I had Intruder Ken out for a ride in my skiff today. Blue water but threatening gray skies kept us working not too far from home. The place was crawlin with flyers busting out but it was a dreadfully slow pick at first. We had a sail come up and turn away from a big bait then nothing for hours. We slid through a couple fleets that had gathered nad found the"misery loves company" syndrome as not a bent rod was in sight. We began picking some fat alberts that at least gave us something to do. Approaching thunderstorms kicked up the seas but not bad. I was busy jaw flapping with ken when I caught a glimpse of a sail piling on my flat. I was a tad slow getting there and dropping back. In hindsight I should have jusst set up as the rod was already bowed up pretty good. My mistake and I hang my head in shame.
Action from the fat ones was pretty steady and my "day saver" lure was drawing all the heat. Then something piled on it and did a pretty good job of erasing some string off the spool. It was enough of a fish that I had to pull her back to dead boat. Ken gained ground for a stubborn fight that lasted a while only to pull the hooks before we could get a look at the fish. I'm guessing a tuna...
The lightning got closer and we called it a day a bit early. Still all in all it was an ok day with great conversatiojn with a great friend. Thanks Ken!!!
The 10-15 they promised for today is puffing 25 again so its a day to go play with fixing my engine. The mechanic can't come back un til tomorrow so I'll just piddle and wash my now accessable bilge...
Even though I wasnt out I'll go ahead and report that yet another freak late season fron made its way through bringing west and north west wind. The sails chewed pretty good with a few boats doing two or better. The mahi shut off on the wrong wind. The kings have been sporadic but some 30lb class fish moving in.
