    Talking June Heat! '06

It started with a tripple of sails then a long car ride to beat up on the makos of the north east...

After the SJShark it was time to reload back in Florida. A bit of a controversy ensued with the tourney staff and a miscount but it all got worked out... Florida Sportsman critic were quick to insinuate wrong doing but now they have the rulingfrom the comittee right on the front page. So in typical asshole fashion they went quiet.

I reloaded the rolling tackle box for round two. Instead of fishing, I took some quality daddy daughter time with Mini and dropped her at Camp in North Carolina. After dropping her off I did some hard talking to the crew at SJ Marina about their screw up. They seem to be repairing the problem at this time...
Yesterday saw me do a morning run along the beach for blues after some tackle work. Today I ventured out to test the waters of the "promised land" aboard a buddy's Sea Craft. I will not get specific but lets say I am feeling a whole lot of optimistic for a great event next weekend...
The boat I'm supposed to fish on is looking to sell me and my mate at a profit to another boat and fish the events with him... Both boats are nice but at this writing not sure which one we'll be running...

Well we wound up using the original 36 after all... What a run we had!

Day one we slid to the promised land. Somebody must have barfed up my numbers cause after years of having the place to myself we suddenly were surrounded by boats... We toughed through tough conditions and picked a single blue shark, a couple makos and a mountain of bluefish.
That let me know to alter my drift to the south for the second day. There was again a guy right on my numbers for the "B" drift and I was forced to set a half mile off target. As soon as we covered a mile or so I laid her back up sea from him and on my favorite numbers. He tried to leap frog and go around me but it put him on the wrong side of the structure. About noon our middle whole blue sang out and godzilla thresher took to the air. She was a pig!
Two hours of rough and tumble led to a release of the 600 class whiptail so we could get back to hunting mako. Time was running short when the fillet bait got drilled and our cobalt missile took to the sky. Clearing 50' hgorizontal and 20' vertical she hit the afterburners!
Our angler laid into her and about a half hour later I had her rolled over on the leader. Colin ran the flyer in the third gill for the kill and it was game over.
We knew she was a good fish but were way surprised when she took second in the Mako Mania... Four straight top two finishes felt good.

The CAST MAsters was a small field but braggin rights were still in place as we took that one with a 150lb male....
Friday's trip rounded things out with a final 150 class fish and that wraps up a great season on the toothy ones...
