Within five hours of arriving in the garden state the fish knew they had a problem. I unloaded a can of well you knowon some blues along the beach and packaged some up to join my sneaky baits for ourup comming mako tourney. I went across the street to a good old spot and it only took two casts to better a nice fluke of maybe four pounds.A ride across town put me at one of my striper spots and they too fell victim.
Yesterday I sent an envoy out to scout some conditions for mako and he affirmed that they were indeed where I sent him. Since that spot is down stream from my "Promised Land" it would indicate that the fish are in there too.
Captain Paul is from the Beverly Hills section which is Rumson. Paul, what is your return to florida date? Todd wants to hookup a mako but he is going to OC for 11 days tomorrow.
Sorry for the late reports...
Last week we fished Mako Mania out of Pt. Pleasant, N.J. Day one we battled hoards of bluefish for the whole day. The next day I took it a notch south to some other structure in my relatively un heard of secret spot. We had a fish start playing with us early on and bowed up about 10am we had a 200+ class mako near the boat within minutes only to have him spit the bait back at us. An hour later another run off produced a slob. An hour or so later we got the big pig boatside and drilled her. At 297 she was big enough to win!
Monday saw me working the mudhole area producing some blue fish and one short bluefin tuna.
Thursday I hammered the beaches for fun and came up with a couple keeper fluke and a load of sea robbins.
Yesterday had me running yet another boat, Cammys Dad and really doing a number on all kinds of goodies. We had probably two dozen monster bluefish. A half dozen 30"+ bluefins followed. We did a shark drift which produced a mako in short order and a couple other run offs...A few moree tuna and bluefish bites on a short troll rounded things off before heading home... Great action packed day...
Today had me back on the "Dad" for a fluke run. maybe 50 shorts and a dozen keepers including one of about 7 lbs for my daughter who joined us for the holiday half day run through Sandy Hook Bay...
Another run to the glory hole produced a mako and more 30" bluefins the day before yesterday. Yesterday I went with my mate and my little girl fluking with a few keepers but nothing to write home about. I'll be back in Florida next week until the 26th then back up north for round two of Jersey killin...
A final run between the glory and chicken yesterday afternoon produced a surprise between the tuna and bluefish bites. A rat white slipped inside and hammered a blue silver mamba. The water was only about 70 but pretty enough to hold at least that one. Quick fight with no jumps on a tld 25. At least the right flavor...Our first of the season. There was another taken closer to the Glory earlier in the week.
