Left the house this morn at 6am for the 1 1/2 hour Ride to Lauderdale... Delayed as all but one lane was closed on 95 for a way bad wreck... God I really hate that stuff especially around christmas time...
Got to my appointment and met the boat owner. He started right in appologizing for the condition of his boat as he only got in yesterday to get it from storage and the hurricane had worked it over bad. No problem... Mine looks worse some days when I'm in a mood...
We slid out the inlet and with the south wind opted to troll. It was killing us to see the live baiters pickin sails in what was grey green dirty water out to 360'. I plodded through some of the old hot spots when we had a pod raise on us. Four fish up, stayed stuck. That was about 10:00... The next six hours went without a knock down and I made a bee line for some good sword water. Expecting a bunch of others to be out there I was shocked to see we had the whole place to our self. The seas laid nice and I went about trying to teach him how to line up for a drift. He coupldn't get over the three knots of gulfstream we had to deal with. I pointed out that we would cover 12 miles of good turf and I laid her up. As it got dark we watched a parade of cruise ships jus dumping out of lauderdale... Big noght must ahve been a dozen. Things were looking slow. Little bait in the lights and not much more on the recorder.
A bit before eight i noticed a line angle on my 100' bait kinda right of how the others were sitting . I looked aft and could see the glow of the lightstic near the top.
"Bruce, put the belt on... pick up the rod and reeel tight"
He did and sure enough there was our fish. He swatted it a few shots and it was game on. Not much of a run and a fairly dogged winching to the boat. I grabbed the leader and got a look... Nice fish. No pig but nice... I saw the fish look back at me jsust as I was gonna stroke it and it hit the afterburners!

I watched that lightsick take off and become a dot in the distance. Forty minutes of rough and tumble before the leader was again in hand. I stroked it and this mans dream came true! No slob by any means but a swordie... his first... and on his boat... It may as well have been the winner at OC the way he carried on...
Stuck it out a while longer and pointed her for the beach. Chopped the yummy one into 40 lbs of steaks and only now got home...Long day but making that memory is all worth it...
