YOU AND THE VHF

I've fished out of morehead for the past six years till this winter... been busy finishing my new house and trying to get moved in. Sunday I finally gave into the mounting pressure on my brain and to the last frizzled nerve I hand left after hearing the carnage laid out this weekend and trailered up to fish mon and tues.

reading this thread before i made my trip, I just passed it of as the usual "in the heat of the bite" radio wars, but to my surprise that was not the case at all. Whats being put over the vhf up there has got to be some of the stupidest most juvenile carp I have ever heard... from the cheap shots toward North & South, to the barn yard animal breeders who need a foot stuck straight up their ass. The ignorance that's going on up their of the VHF is a disgrace to everyone who leaves the inlet... its to the point that I once was proud to be a part of the bluefin fleet and what we were doing, but now I'm almost ashamed to tell anyone that I am even associated with such a bunch of asshats. *disclaimer: I in no way mean the captains and crews who have been in the game well before my self, and act as professional as any body in this world could...... thats right, it's the know-nothing, weekend warrior, king tourney god jackasses and the "get rich quick" clueless pricks that have no business commercial fishing for an almost endangered species just to make a quick buck to begin with... like they really need it driving around with 3000hp worth of outboards burning $400 on fuel a day.... this is where the shit is coming from... not the true "professional tuna fisherman" or the true "professional charter boats & crews" no matter where their from. If this is the way things are headed I hope for & will support any Mortitorium to stop the sell of bluefins period. Jesus, with the coasties having to listen to such a group of disrespectful idiots all day, why do you think they crawl up everyone's ass on the water...think people...just think.

I apologize for my language in this post & sorry for the rant, but Box you have hit the nail right on the head this time & I could not agree with you more.

i just shut it off! if you have it on and your irritated by it....shame on you. when i want to listen, i do......when i don,t....i don't. really, how can someone else's behavior on a radio bother you unless your bi-polar? or sinking, get a grip!

If you dont listen to the radio how do you find out where the good water is? Current? Bait? FISH?


A really good captain once told me NEVER EVER shut off your radio, its one of your most valuable tools while on the water, Just dont talk on it

At one point when the quote wars were between the North and South I would agree, but that is not the problem Hubris. I could care less who gets um, but the people involved should a least know their ass from a hole in the ground before they get in the way & mess up everyone else or act like jr. high kids. My point is, everyone should have enough respect for themselves, others, and what we are all out there doing than to drag the hole mess down in the mud.

and i dont talk. very rarely if i do. but when it starts to get thick off it goes. by then i usually have my own gig going anyway. i understand what to do when i get there. i sure dont need to fish the radio all day. listen long enough and you begin to understand what they mean when they abbreviate their statement's. but to listen all day, no thank's!

yea, that,s what i mean. sounds like a gold rush. ever been out west and seen one of those town's? that's what will happen to the fishery if it keeps up. especially with the info on the internet today. it's probably not the best thing to maintain the fishery. JMHO. hell, when was i every humble!

If you were to ask me, I would rather fish around part timers in center consoles than full timers, because they are there in part for fun and excitement, but again I'm done and over it

I feel if the recs are their for just fun and excitment then fishing under a rec permit would be alot less costly for them and they would get just as much enjoyment out of the fishing...

and Hurbis, last time I checked the CG requires any charter or commercial vessel to keep the radio on & montior at least ch16, so cutting it off is not an option on my boat. You are right about where this fishery is headed though.

i keep my mouth shut on the radio! they see me as the outsider right away. i understand that, and it's not a problem. the only time i mess with-em is when we run back to pirates cove. HUBRIS is one fast little monkey with those 350 hp cats. i love to pass boats and have them tell me " WHOA, HUBRIS YOUR NUMBER ONE!" at least that's what i think their saying.
