It's gotten ridiculous everywhere....OC, Oregon Inlet, even Hatteras to some degree. If these idiots would have just listened more than they talked they could have gotten some great info and learned more than a little from the charter fleet. Instead, they have driven the charter fleet to Sat phones and scrambled channels. I can't stand to leave my radio on channel 1 for more than an hour or so in OC anymore...I just stay on one of the scrambled channels.

Not me either. I actually didn't have my radio on, we were listening to NPR. I did see him hooked up, but I was a few miles away.

Funny that you mentioned the predator and swashbuckler. I said something to him the other day along the lines of "will someone please talk to the swashbuckler on the radio just because I am tired of hearing the word swashbuckler on the radio every 30 seconds".

I heard that and was laughing my ass off. I'm just glad the Black Pearl isn't here this year, I heard that name called no less than 150 times a day when they were here in the past few years.

I hate to say it, but my radio is hardly ever on anymore because of all the wrong behaviors described in this thread. It needs to be on and scanning at all times, but I CANNOT take it!
Using primary safety equipment for entertainment purposes is just plain wrong. I hope I hear somebody in need and can be heard when I need a come back, however that is becoming more and more doubtful.

So what's new about the radio Box? or do you just need to vent/rant. You hit the nail on the head and Proheat is right on also but it seems like it's been like that since my first vhf radio!(and that's been some time) When I leave the ramp in West OCMD I go to channel 9 and ASK for a radio check(channel 9 is where that is supposed to take place) why? To see if the set is working! After that (and i rarely get a check from anyone other than the coasties) it's scan 16 plus others and STFU!

They are just the worst on the radio up here. For the most part the fishing channels are pretty good, but you get a couple WAFIs on the line and it's all over

Thanks for that reminder Bobby! I used the fish in Hatteras every year in May and June & looked forward to the morning prayer!

Box,
Amen to that! When I'm out most of the time I just listen to 16. No BS there!
