    ARE YOU A NICE GUY?

So you may ask why im sitting in front of the computer at 7:00 a.m. on a Monday morning, (3rd day of striper season)?

We'll, I was filling in on another boat today and when I showed up at 5:15 it appeared that someone wanted my job. All the lights were on, rods were out, rigs set-up, ice loaded. Yup, he wanted it pretty bad. My 27 year old but came strolling down the dock with nothing but a gin on my face.

Captain forgot to tell me that his new mate was able to work. Now, I have worked for this captain as a fill in for about 12 years and if there is one thing to always remember, shit happens. I could have sat and waited and he would have gave me the gig and sent his mate home, but not today. He wanted to go bad and I knew it. The truth is, this kid wanted it more than me. Obviously, he beat me there by a half hour. So I grabed my stuff that I put on the boat the night before, introduced myself, shook his hand, told him what was working the day before, wished him good luck and rolled.

Yup, he wanted it more than me. I hope he's tear'n em up right now.

    Karl

P.S. Now if that were to happen down at the beach, I might not have been so nice.

Having worked p/t on boats for 20yrs I've had the same thing happen. It sucks but, I remember, I'm not doing this for a living. Regular mates were!
That's been my experience & I knew I'd get another day. It comes back to you sooner or later.

I think you did the right thing.
