    you eat shrimp right???

o yea.... sure they are US shrimp?

been thinking alot lately about how our government has turned its back to us citizens over and over to please foreign nations and big business and how the long term effect is now affecting us at a personal level.....

would like to share a short vid of a show my wife's uncle Danny did explaining the plight US shrimpers face. It's really a shame we allow import shrimp that has been raised in tanks, feed on chicken crap that falls through from the cages above, filled full of anti-biotics and junk just to keep um alive long enough to harvest and feed to your family.... these practices would never be allowed inside the US, but our government will allow the Asian countries to flood our market with this vile product dropping prices way beyond the point anyone could be competitive with.... killing an entire US industry and fishing communities up and down our coasts in the process. Heartbreaking....

I have seen many shrimp farms in Krabi, Thailand. Most Thais won't eat what comes out of the farms 'cause they taste like sh!t and the difference is obvious.
It seems that Thailand is one of the larger exporters because that is the only stamp I've seen on shrimp in grocery stores around me.
Shrimpers can rest assured when it comes to my dollar, I will continue to go to the source and not the grocery store for my shrimp and have no problem paying extra.

This issue is not limited to just shrimp and "seafood" - it clearly underscores the trade issues we have with Asia.

I simply can not understand why we as a nation would accept clearly inferior/harmful products simply for the cost.

This is a very ugly situation - we allow cheap inferior products in with little or no oversight - the products are so cheap that our products cannot compete, then our industry goes away - and any chance of competition is gone.

Stand up America and insist that basic safety and quality standards be required for all imports - to the level that US industry is required to comply with - Not only will the quality of product be improved, We will be able to compete once again.

John those shrimp farms are pretty awful. I have seen them in brazil. and your right I wouldn't think of eating them. Good bait though.

But I have noticed alot of old time shrimpers who catch them just like the video you attached showed in guatemala. I wonder if they do it for export or for domestic sale. All I know is that I have seen poor people that live in plastic tarps go outside and boil up 4 lbs of big ass shrimp for their dinner. And we have eatin some monsters over there. I wonder why we can't get them here in the US. Maybe a different species of shrimp. Don't know.

And about the Antibiotics - you don't have to look much further then your good ole domestic chicken houses around the eastern shore of the US. These chickens are so chock full of antibiotics and steriods that they can barely walk if they are not slaughtered on schedule. They do it for faster growth but I never realized how horrible they are until we started eating some of the chickens we have raised here. Side by side I wouldn't ever touch that store bought chicken. Unless of course it Royal Farms Fried but then your really not tasting the chicken.

The guy holding the chicken looks like he is up to no good! Something tells me that chicken didn't live long after the pic was taken!

Jon, I do have and only buy my Shrimp from my local guys here in my area and then when i know where they are getting them from.

Here is some food for thought for all here that reads this...

USDA inspects 1% of all seafood imported into this country!

That's right, 1%. The state of Alabama inspects about 50+% of all seafood that comes into their state. Out of that which they inspect, 70% rejected due to the chemicals that are found in it, as most are cancer causing.

When dangerous chemicals are found in what's the US inspects, the country that imports it simply chances to another that USDA is not inspecting for, cancer causing or not.

This is very sad but true.
Have you walked into you local grocery store to the seafood section, the smell is horrible do to what is used to "preserve" the seafood there. It is 10 times worse that at my local seafood dealer...

    What clt-capt,

said has alot of weight. Think about it and if truthful most will have to admit, we have allowed WalMart to drive just about any household product market. Why, because we shop there out of convienence. I can't speak for all, but most product's that I see my wife come home with are made in China. Now I've got nothing against China, they're a Communist Govt run Country who cares nothing about it's people. Don't believe it watch what happen's when there are those brave enough to speak against it. If they want trash OK,keep it there. Every time you (or my lovely wife) buy's something made outside the US because it's cheaper, you're just digging your own grave deeper. No WE can't compete with junk! This Country got to where it's at (or was) because of quality people and product's. Well we all know what's happened to the people part of that equation, guess it's just natural for the product's to follow suit. I for one am sick and tired of US selling our own selve's down the tube's. I found out the other day that the Great Lakes fleet of frieghter's are getting towed to China for re-fit! Come on where is your PRIDE.
I practice what I preach where I can, (because too many US Companie's have already had to go under by way of unfair trade practices that all tool's aren't available anymore), when I buy tools I buy made in the USA only. Yes they cost more, but they don't break in my hand's and bust knuckle's, teeth, etc.... If you buy the made in China trash, you'll have to buy 3 or 4 set's over your working lifetime at the least. In the end the money is the same, buy US and buy it once. Frank
