The first one I admit I was clueless...
Second one I have seen many times trolling for rockfish... you only get to pull up scales if the hook is super sharp.

    Very cool clueless post box

I would have guess the 1st pic was the line bend was from the roller tip, before the rod was put away, the hook was secured at the reel or guide half wrapped at the reel with too much tension and tight drag

That is some pretty cool stuff! Never would've guessed right!

Does bring up a question though. What caused those fractures and are they a really bad thing? If you would've hooked a giant, would you have most certainly lost it?

NOW HERE IS A NEW NAME I HAVEN'T SEEN ...."ALOOP"...SORT OF SHORT FOR ALLEYOOP.....WELCOME ABOARD TO MY WORLD DUDE!

I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS YOUR COMMENT ABOVE....A GOOD COMMENT AND OBSERVATION IT TIS.......

SECURING A WIND-ON LURE & HOOK FOR THE RIDE HOME

IF ONE SECURES HIS HOOK TO THE REEL AREA, TWO THINGS WILL MOST CERTAINLY HAPPEN:

    1. THE HOOK WILL SCRATCH THE REEL GAURANTEED IF YOU STORE IT THERE

    2. A MEMORY BEND WILL OCCUR IN THE LEADER AT THE ROD TIP WHICH CREATES VISIBILTY AND DRAG ON A LEADER THAT IS TAUTED TO BE INVISIBLE ....AND ESPECIALLY IN FLURO LEADERWHICH A MEMORY BEND IS HARD TO REMOVE

I AM CONSTANTLY RECRIMPING MY HOOK TO MY LEADER, SO I PREFER TO STORE MY LURE /HOOK DIRECTLY UP AGAINST THE ROD TIP AND SLACKEN MY DRAG PRESSURE ON THE REEL WHILE DOING SO.......THIS WILL BUILD MINIMAL MEMORY BEND

THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE I USE IS TO SIMPLY REMOVE THE LURE/HOOK AND WIND THE LEADER TO THE REEL (NOTHING IS IN THE GUIDES).....THIS WAY NOTHING GETS ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED WHILE IN "STORAGE" UNTIL THE NEXT DAY OF FISHING

NOW......IF YOU WANT YOU FLURO LEADER TO REMAIN IN GOOD CONDITION AND EFFECTIVE....TRY THIS: AT THE BEGGINNING OF EACH MORNING, WE TAKE OUR 45 FOOT FLUOROCARBONS AND STRETCH THEM OUT BY ATTACHING THEM TO A DOCK SIDE CLEAT AND WALKING DOWN THE DOCK PUTTING TREMENDOUS PRESSURE ON THEM......DO YOU GET THE PICTURE HERE? WE S-T-R-E-T-C-H THE LEADERS EVERDAY TO REMOVE THE "VISIBLE KINKS AND BENDS" THAT FLUORO ACQUIRES WHILE ON A REEL

FLUOROCARBON....IT'S EXPENSIVE...NEEDS REGUALR MAINTENANCE AND CARE TO REMAIN INVISIBLE...IT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED REGUARLY....BUT PRICELESS WHEN IT COMES TO TUNA FISHING

    OTHER NOTES HERE:

NEVER STORE A HOOK OR SWIVEL ONTO A GUIDE....ON ANY ROD...

    ROCK ON

Box why don't you cover the hook point with a black marker to mark as sharpened plus helping slow down the oxidation I perfer to darken the whole hook I have read that bft don't see black so why not color the hook that way
    Your thoughts on this

THE ONLY TIME I DARKEN MY HOOK POINT IS WHEN I AM MASS SHARPENING A 100 HOOKS AT A TIME TO LET ME KNOW WHICH HAVE BEEN DONE AND NOT DONE

THE BLACK MARKER COMES OFF ABOUT AS QUICK AS IT GOES ON IN MY OPINION JUST FROM SWIMMMING THE BAIT SO REALLY WHAT IS THE POINT? MY BALLYHOO IS SILVER SO IS MY HOOK

MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT TUNA CANNOT SEE BLACK

I ASK THEM BACK: "HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS"?

I AM NOT SAYING THEY ARE RIGHT AND I AM NOT SAYING THEY ARE WRONG, BUT SHOW ME THE SCIENTIFIC TEST RESULTS.....IN FACT, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO "THEY" REALLY IS.......I MEAN WHO PERFORMED THIS TEST...????? AND HOW WAS THE EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED? ........"WHY AND HOW DO WE PROVE THAT TUNA DO NOT SEE BLACK".....MAYBE THE NMFS MADE THIS RULING ON TUNA DO NOT SEE BLACK! TUNA ARE BLACK THEMSELVES...HOW DO THEY SEE ONE ANOTHER ?

I MEAN THAT WOULD BE ONE COOL THREAD WITH PICTURES OR VIDEOS TO CONFIRM UP THE THEORY!!!!

MAYBE THATS WHY MENHAYDEN HAVE THOSE SPOTTED BLACK DOTS ON THEIR SIDES...FOR CAMOFLAGUE PURPOSES....AND WHY FALSE ALBACORE HAVE THOSE BLACK ZEBRA LIGHTNING BOLT STRIPES ON THEIR BACK......SO THEY CAN HIDE!!! DOESN'T WORK TO WELL DOES IT

IN 2005....WHEN I WAS FISHING FOR GIANTS WITH CAPT HARRINGTON ON THE "RUN-OFF".....WE STARTED THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING (DARKNESS)... WITH ILANDERS & HORSE ON OUR SURFACE BAITS.....BLACK ILANDERS WITH CHROME HEADS......BANGALAMA!!!! AND WE CAUGHT FISH WITH THEM.

BUT.....I AM 2 TUNANDABOX WITH 10 DAYS OF FISHING UNDER MY BELT THIS SEASON.....AND 8 STRAIGHT DAYS WITHOUT A BFT BITE I MIGHT ADD....

ANYONE GOT A BLACK MAGIC MARKER?

    CHECK THIS OUT:

A FISHERMAN PARKED NEXT TO THE NIGHTHAWK CAUGHT A KINGFISH WHILE TROLLING FOR BFT.....YOU CAN STILL SEE THE THE BALLYHOO IN HIS MOUTH.......NOT THAT THE HEAD AND GILL RAKES ARE ALL MESSED UP AND RIPPED....SOMEONE CAME CALLING AS THE KING WAS BEING RETRIEVED

NOTICE THE "CUT" ON THE SIDE OF THE KING MID WAY ON IT'S BODY.....THIS IS HOW DEEP THE BFT HAD THE KING DOWN IT'S MOUTH....THERE ARE TUNA TEETH MARKS ALL OVER THE BODY OF THIS FISH
