WTF is this???

For the past 2 days my Lab and Foxhound have been going crazy around the barn in the back yard, crawling on the lawn mower, digging..... I have pulled everything out and around the barn looking for the dreaded snake as last year this time I killed a small ground rattler under the push mower deck.

Well this critter came out when it ran out of places to get away from the man's best friends. Roughly 10in. long and weighed a good lb. and snapping at anything I tried to capture it in. As a redneck kid I saw alot of creatures down in the backwoods of Mesic, if it crawled, slithered or flew we had it but never anything like this. OK you W2MW zoologist, biologist and jacks of every trade what do we have?????? Before any of you treehuggers start screaming foul, the critter in the pics below was not harmed and was released down the street

Thats an impressive creature! Havent seen that one but we have the blue-tail skinks. My kids love to chase them.
