    Wrightsville Beach mixed bag

Headed offshore out of Wrightsville beach on Monday with Robert, Arlen and my dad with Snowy grouper in mind. Made the 75 mile run in about 2 1/2 hours and we were finally at the spot. Bait and jigs go down 750 feet and we had our limit of nice snowies on the first drift. Two on jigs and 2 on bait. The biggest came on a a 500 gram zest jig. Brought the trolling gear with us so we got the deep drop gear stowed and put out our spread. 3 minutes later flatline tld 25 starts screaming and a sail is tailwalking behind the boat. Arlen landed his first billfish and we continued trolling inshore. Got into 300 feet and we were marking tons of bait. The trolling gear comes in and the jigs go back over and we were immediately hooked up to big ajs. We tugged on the ajs for a couple hours with the biggest being about 60 or 70 pounds. Put the trolling gear back out and got on a wahoo bite that lasted about 45 minutes and we had 5 good bites but we only landed one. We had one cut off and pulled hooks on a few more. We were using braid and I like it but it is going to take a little getting used to. Ended the day on some inshore bottom with 6 or 8 reds. IT was an awesome day offshore with lots of fish, not bad for the first trip offshore in the new boat.

Pretty work there Chip and crew. Fine report and pictures. Looks like your dad is breaking in the new 23 just right.
How long did it take to get the jig snowy up?

I am more impressed by the Snowy on the jig than the Sail. Not taking anything away from the sail by any means. Question for you cbaker77...What is this thing?

Thats a big popper. It is just wrapped up with a piece of neoprene to keep it from beating the rod up. The jig caught snowies took probably 5-7 minutes which is about the same as the ones we caught on bait since we were hand cranking anyways.
