Nice cobia Keith. Great report and info, along with the picture. I think we were heading off when you thought it was too rough to remain offshore. Damn it was funky. Sometimes I get tunnel vision and can't see outside of the tunnel. Tough day, but I did catch my first American Red Snapper yesterday. One bright moment. Tomorrow's another day. Slip.
Nice job on the cobe, I can only imagine the fight that insued. Not sure I'm ready to spear one that size. After diving, its hard to just go out there and fish anymore these days. Your always wanting to go down and see for yourself whether its a good spot.
BOX and all, I would be glad to get some pics of lures underwater so you can see what they look like. Name a polular lure you'd like to see and I'll try to get my hands on one and take some pics at different depths
The first color in the visible spectrum to disappear is red. Its gone at about thirty feet. It "looks" like it changes to a green (hence the blood looks green coment) and even a darker color that contrast against the surrounding.
Other colors take on a different hue or contrast as well but I find it strange that a pink/white, red or orange lure fished deep draws a strike based on its color and the fact that it changes to a dark green under water.
Keith, this is good stuff. Question for SFC members: Does a fish eye see the same as human eye when it comes to color? Of course, color being only one aspect of why a fish strikes a bait.
BOX, isn't that the $64 million question when it comes to color?
If they see the same then Keith's observations are very helpful and can lead to direct action on color choices. If they do not see the same, then when we put out purple seawitch w/ HOO, what do they see? We need more research? C'mon all you fish scientists, advance this valuable research! You guys are onto something here.

Maybe we should have an ocean hunter forum???? I would love to get into some spear fishing
i think the blue/white Ilander would be a prime candidate since i would bet there is at least one on every boat heading to the blue. and it seems to be a popular planer bait. i, for one, would also like to see the difference between #8 brite piano wire and #8 brown stainless wire at depth.
