Got to head down to Atlantic Beach this weekend with a buddy from up here that was jonesing for some pullage. We left Friday after work and headed south to Atlantic Beach, arriving late, hooking up with Gottaflylee and got settled into the house and hit the sack.
o'dark thirty on Saturday, we got up and hit the skinny water for trout and reds. After fishing pretty hard for the day, we ended up with 70ish speckled trout and a handful of reds. A great day throwing the mirrorlures and gulp!!! We came back to the dock with sore arms and fingers and a lot of trout slept saturday night with sore gums and holes in their cheeks!!!! Pics to follow later once I get them downloaded.
We got back to the dock, got Lee loaded up and on his way and then it was time for us to gear up and get ready for a day of killin on the Wild Goose with Box!!! We got the bellies filled with grub at Channel Marker Restaurant and then went to the store to stock up on food for a Sunday of killin. (More to come later on the food front, but that really deserves it's own post....)
Sunday started off with the alarm clock going off at 4:30. Hit the ol snooze for a few minutes more and when I looked at the clock next it was 5:15After a quick text to the skipper to inform him of the issue, we did our best fire drill and got there 15 minutes late.... not good.....
We got there and met up with Steel Bendin from SFC (Brother, you are welcome on my trips whenever you want, your hard work work was noted and greatly appreciated) and then got set and headed out, pointing the Wild Goose south for a migration toward the 300. After running directly into the 2' - 4'ers for a while, we hit the spot below Swansboro hole and began trolling.
The Sniper was commissioned for a tour of Duty and Hoo killin and it was up to the task. Today it got 3 more notches on its belt with 2 nice hoos and an AJ. On the rest of the spread, we got 1 more big Hoo and a few blackfin, one being 4x the size of the others!!! Good eatin right there!!! We worked well in the pit and everything that dared to bite ended up in da box. It was a great trip as my friend had never been more than 3 miles off the beach and this was a good exposure trip for him as he got to see a hoo absolutely commit suicide on the bait!!!
I was glad that I had more time with the sniper and got to finally iron out some kinks with the proper handling of the planer and its setup. We were really surprised at the amount of force that is placed on that planer while trolling when the rod tripped and re reeled it in, only to see that the bar on the planer had broken where the threads end on the bar!
We got back to the dock and got the fish cleaned and then pointed north and drove until 0230 when I finally put the truck in park back in Maryland...Sometime last night, a freight train ran right over me as I can barely move today. That said, it was well worth it! Great time, great fish and beautiful weather... oh yeah, and fish in da box..
Pics to follow when I get them downloaded. Nauti, sorry you couldn't make it, it was GOOD!!!
