    Wire rig storage

I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but am giving it a try this spring.

I don't use wire every day in the spring but need to have it available when the Wahoos start chewing. The wire rigs can get in the way, but most important --- they rust. I have vacum sealed several rigs that I can easily store on the boat for extended periods of time and are within easy access.
The vacum sealing makes the packs very stiff and easy to store--- we'll see how it goes.
I guess the same can be done for other less often used rigs as well.

Morning Glenn, The stainless will last forever but when I pre-tie piano wire it rusts up if not used in short order. I just coil them up and drop em in a little tupperware container with cornstarch. They stack in there just fine. Ones I tied last fall and never got to use are still as brite and sharp as the day I tied them.........Hope to put them to use soon.
Save that plastic for the tunas

Looks great Glenn and ought to work good as long as the hook does not poke a hole in the bag. Nice picture by the way.

I agree, I keep 15 ready to go in a container similar to a coffe can but it is plastic. Lil cornstarch and they will be fine.

I did however do an experiment this winter and fall. I left one of the #8 piano wire rigs outside on my deck coiled up since this past Oct. It is just now starting to show some rust. Glenn you should be fine when these vac sealed rigs are at the house even with a poked hole. But I know it would not take long at all to rust out in a salt environment.

My daughter's only real chore is to do the laundry--- she refuses to touch my hunting clothes/gear. It ought to be washed and put away by---- about June

    God I love being single.

I ordered some from Malin through Tex. It took a couple of weeks to come in. When it arrived it was RUSTED!

Went back to the #8 Piano wire. About 20 bucks buys more than you could use in a year. It twists up fine and is so cheap you don't mind pitching it if it gets rusty while stored on the boat.
I'm told that #8 piano is stronger than #9 stainless but if you break #8 unkinked wire, you need to have your reverse checked

I'll pre-tie a bunch with just hook and sinker so I can add the flavor of the day to the tag end.

I do the same thing Lou does. Baby poweder works good too.

I am going to try something Rick does on Second to None. He uses the big coffee containers that are made of plastic and puts his wire in those. Seems like a great idea.
