Stop staring at my Avatar.
whiteboy??????????
How the hell do I catch one of these things this summer. I fish the northeast block canyon. Trolling for tuna is it possible to catch on trolling 6.8 to 7.1 knots? If so how?

Absolutely can, had one on a green machine bird combo this September.

You have some great White Marlin fishing at times but nobody fishes for them.
When you get the right conditions try pulling a spread of 6 naked medium or small ballyhoo with a squid teaser chain on each side at 5 - 6 knots and you will be very suprised at the numbers you will raise.

IF YOU ARE TROLLING AT 6 PLUS KNOTS TARGETTING TUNA.....I SUGGEST YOU HAVE A DINK BAIT PITCHBAIT...NAKED MED BALLYHOO STANDING BY......IF A DIRTY WHITEBOY COMES INTO SPREAD GET IT OUT THERE....YOU MAY THROTTLE BACK TO 5-6 AT THIS TIME

SLOW DOWN!! Make sure your baits are swimming. [ Not skipping in and out of the water.] Nakeds are good. If you use a skirt try to mimick the bait. For example, if there are flying fish around use a blue and white Ilander with your ballyhoo. Good Luck and let us know how you make.

Keep the drags down low almost on free spool you do not want them to feel tension and usually the first hit is with the bill, the second is when the fish takes the bait, let it take it for awhile then swing home. Troll naked ballys, and have a naked bally ready to pitch, keep your eyes open in the spread is key at all times. They usually come in to the spread and not many people even know that they showed up. I would recomend having naked ballys trolled in the middle of the spread they usually show up in the middle. They get spooked very easily if they feel the hook when they first hit the bait they will spit it most of the time. Use elastics for rigging the bait no copper wires and use as small of lead sinkers barried deep enough inside of the hoo so it is not visable and it looks as natural as possible.

I caught a fish once :)
Great subject for up this way Boonebird. There’s a good number of them in these waters but they don’t seem to get a lot of pressure. I haven’t specifically targeted them but have seen them in my spread and had one take a large Black Bart Wahoo Candy off a flat line tight to the transom near the lanes SW of Block. That fish nearly dumped the 50 wide in what seemed like 30 seconds before it unbuttoned. I think having the pitch ready with a weighted ballyhoo for those whiteboy occasions will be in the plan from now on.

That was probaly a blue marlin if it almost dumped a 50 wide in 30 seconds amazing fish they are.
Two years ago we were trolling up on the flats of the tails and got crushed by a nice grander blue right at the transom hit the flat line on a cedar striped a 80 wide class 2 speed in matters of seconds we didnt even have time to chase him he was almost a mile away running with 30 pounds of drag on him he was pushing close to 800 pounds. He was twice the size of the 300-500 pound blues we have caught before. Amazing fish they are.
