Well Saturday (9/25) was likely the last day of marlin fishing for us this year out of Oregon Inlet and it was a good one. Started fishing at the 050 in 43 fathoms in some puke green 71 degree water. Didn't get the spread out before a white was behind the long rigger. Got our first release at 7:50 which was a good start for what turned out to be a slow day for the fleet. Top boat had 7 fish. While most boats continued up the line and deeper, we beat it out between the 050 and the 080 all day, never going deeper than 50 fathoms. Ended up catching 4 of 5 whites, 4 blackfins, and a handful of dolphin for a great end to our summer season. We managed to catch at least one billfish on every trip since May which I think is pretty neat on an outboard. The ride back was poor as we had a tight head sea the whole way back. Thankfully the Obsession broke it down pretty good for us. I believe 27 fish were caught in the fleet saturday. Of course it picked up again on Sunday.
On to tuna fishing...
