Finally, taking my boat out tomorrow, first time in a year! I've heard that the dolphin are about 20 miles out, from Beaufort Inlet (MHC). Anybody willing to give a clue where to head to? Not asking for secrets, just a general idea...I'd really appreciate it!
There are really no secrets to catching dolphin. It is one of the easiest fish to catch(once you get the hang of it) Anything beyond 250' if fair game just be on the lookout for the obvious, keep you eye on the surface water temp any sudden increase is a good sign, birds, good THICK sea-weed line, and if the water is too rough put a sinker(2 oz) on the rigged ballyhoo. Bring some cut chunks of ballyhoo, just in case you hit a big school and just in case you forgot, always keep one in the water until the whole school in your cooler...Let us know how you did..
I fish out of Miami and Key Largo. Dolphin here are very common, on some days you can catch you limit fast and be back early, but as always there is no guarantee when fishing!!!
Started a little past NW Places, trolled all the way past 14 Buoy, almost to 90FT Drop...1 peanut, 1 bailer, 1 king for the day. From what I heard, it was slim pickings everywhere out there yesterday. No weedlines, no rips, just scattered grass. Beautiful day on the water, though.
