When a plan works! Really!!!
Since there ain't no BFT's biting and the new Wii my wife got from her sister for Xmas has a suck ass fishing game that I jst can't seem to figure out, I needed to kill something, quick!
Grabbed the phone to call my buddy Phil and it rings! Him calling me, want to go wet a hook? I'll be to the ramp in 10 minutes, he must have it as bad as I do because he nearly run me off the road going to the ramp
2 rigs in the parking lot
all that "bad" info has worked like a charm, everyone else is fishing the honeyhole in Beaufort Co. or the other end of ? County
Throw the crap in the boat and head out, water is nasty and fresh from the Xmas night flood that fell here. Pass the 2 other boats and arrive on the spot. Now this is where I become the bug and Phil is the windshield, lucky joker 3 cast 3 fish
Hr fished the same lure all day and left me in the wake
I finally found something in the tackle bag that half ass kept up. We must have gone thru 2 dozen specks 14in. and smaller before I snagged a decent keeper which I wish I had kept. Worked a short section of bank all afternoon occasionally getting a better fish when Phil tangles with something I thought had left town with the cold snap, a nice puppy drum that swam off to fight another day. Next cast Phil snags the big fish of the day and we do the chinese fire drill around the boat, trolling motor, lower unit and finally I net the monster!! A fat 26in. Drum that swallowed the ML, only reason he went in the box as the surgery to remove obstruction in throat was unsucessful
He will make a fine stew.
Tide comes up a foot or so and so do the bigger specks, work the bank and Phil finds the headshakers, landing several beating the 5lb. mark pretty good while I'm dumping the tacklebag looking for something to counter the onslaught. There he is, theres another, nice fish, better fish and can you get the net? are all phrases I have been subjected to this evening
Finally I dig up some thing Capt. Lee used on our trip together and I drag a couple nice ones into the box. As the sun got lower the bigger fish kept chewing and we finished with 12 fish between 3.5-little over 5lbs. and a stout slot drum. Absolute blast, not a hot BFT bite but it sure beat the heck outta couch riding. Hot bait of the day was the ML17's, in a old school color.

Nice report Foulhooked. I'm 25 days away from going to kill something or catch and release. I can't wait. Sorry BOX but I'm heading to warmer weather instead of Redneck NC

Thanks guys! Box that milk jug is a sign of the desperate economic times here in redneck land, save the ice money for more Mirrolures
Works like a charm, just chunk it back into the bait freezer for the next trip. Only six pack you find in our cooler will be A&W Rootbeer officer!
